Estimate a fare from the distance, time of day, pre-booking and passengers — based on the NTA maximum fare tariff.
How it's worked out: the first 500m is the initial charge. The next 15km (Standard/Premium) is charged per
kilometre up to a capped amount, since the meter actually runs on whichever of distance or time is ticking up
faster — this calculator estimates using the per-km rate only. Beyond that, every further kilometre is charged
at the higher "Tariff B" rate, with no cap. The Special rate (late night weekends, Christmas Eve, New Year's Eve)
has no capped middle tariff — everything past the initial charge is charged at its higher per-km rate. Pre-booking
adds a flat €3.00, and the first passenger is included free — each extra passenger adds the fee above (edit it if
yours differs).
Traffic delay: a taximeter switches to its per-minute rate whenever the car is stationary or crawling, so
time lost to traffic isn't free — it's charged at the same per-minute rate as whichever tariff the trip is in
(the capped Tariff A rate for shorter trips, the higher Tariff B rate once you're past 15km). If you expect delays,
enter the extra minutes above and that's added using the real per-minute rate rather than a guessed percentage.
This is an estimate only, not an official fare — the actual taximeter reading is what's payable.
